 People who are aged 60 and above are eligible to receive tokens from MTC depots and offices. “Monthly 10 tokens will be issued to senior citizens. The elderly need to get an identity card from the MTC depots by filling in applications with photograph,” said Jayalalithaa.

Senior citizens can travel free on MTC buses:

Senior citizen can submit the application form in any of the bus depot or main bustand, apart from this you can submit on any of the 42 centres provided by TN government.

Application form submit time – You can submit the Application form From morning 8.30 AM to 1.30 PM and from 2 PM to 7.30 PM.

While submitting your application form, senior citizens have to submit their Age proof or other id proofs like Aadhar Card, Voter id Card, Driving license, Ration card or school certificate, two passport size photographs with application form.

After submission senior citizens will get Free bus passes with 10 tokens for a month.

This 10 tokens will be given for every month. For that you have to show the free bus passes.

While travelling in bus, senior citizen have to show their bus passes to conductor. And they have to give that token to the conductor to get free travelling ticket.

Free bus pass scheme for senior citizens to be launched on Jaya’s b’day:

As part of fulfilling this promise, the Chief Minister today announced that in the first phase, the scheme would be launched in Chennai city wherein senior citizens would be allowed to travel in all MTC buses, barring the air-conditioned buses, free of cost. The scheme would be launched on February 24, she said, adding, with this all the promises made by the AIADMK in the 2011 Assembly elections have been fulfilled. Stating that ten tokens would be given to beneficiaries of the scheme per month, Ms Jayalalithaa said the senior citizens could show the tokens to the conductor and travel free of cost in MTC buses. Ms Jayalalithaa said application forms for the scheme could be obtained in bus depots and could be downloaded online. After filling the forms, senior citizens should affix their photograph to receive the identity card and tokens. The complete details about the availability of the forms in depots would be published in the Transport department’s website, she added. Ms Jayalalithaa said no last date was fixed for submitting the applications and senior citizens, whowished to avail this benefit, could submit the form as and when they desired.
